2 Immunisation against typhoid is advised.
Food & drink Tap water is safe to drink although it can often be salty in taste. Milk is pasteurised and dairy products are safe for consumption. Local meat, poultry, seafood, fruit and vegetables are generally considered safe to eat. Other risks Diphtheria, tuberculosis and hepatitis B vaccinations are sometimes recommended. HIV/AIDS is worryingly the leading cause of death among Bahamians aged 15-44. Appropriate precautions should be taken.
Medical facilities are on a par with the USA, but can be costly and, therefore, medical insurance is recommended. This should ideally cover the cost of air ambulance.
