Tourism is one of Egypt’s main industries and accommodation is available around all the major attractions and the larger cities. Egypt has all types of accommodation on offer, from deluxe hotels to youth hostels, at prices to suit all budgets. The main cities have moderately priced quality hotels, which must be booked well in advance, especially during the winter months. Smaller hotels are very good value. Hotel bills are subject to a tax and service charge of 12 per cent. There are only a few official campsites in the country. Tourists are advised to contact the local tourist offices on arrival for further details. There are 16 youth hostels altogether, which are located mainly in large towns, on the coast and in popular tourist regions.
